Ukraine Says Russia Deploys Iskander-M Launchers near Border

It was reported on April 24 that the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said Russia had deployed Iskander-M mobile battlefield missile launchers within 60 kilometers of the Ukrainian border. At the same time, they have increased the number of troops in the Belgorod region of northeast Kharkiv.

The Iskander, a mobile ballistic missile system codenamed SS-26 Stone by NATO, replaced the Soviet Scud missile. Its two guided missiles have a range of up to 500 km and can carry conventional or nuclear warheads. The deployment of the system brings cities such as Kharkiv and Poltava in Ukraine to enter the range of Russian missile launchers. Meanwhile, Ukraine and its allies will closely assess the potential threat of Russia using nuclear weapons.
