More than 140 influential people from academia, law, and politics, including former UK Prime Ministers Gordon Brown and Sir John Major, called for unique Nuremberg trials of Nazi War Criminals to investigate war crimes of Vladimir Putin, Russian officials, and institutions.
Brown said that democracy and the rule of law would prevail, but Putin is replacing these by using force after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He agreed with Biden’s definition of Putin as a “war criminal.” He stressed that if the international community does not take a stand now, hostility in other nations may go unpunished.
The International Criminal Court is currently investigating Putin for war crimes but cannot pursue charges of aggression without the approval of the UN Security Council. Russia, a permanent member of the Council, could veto this.
