Pentagon Considers Using SpaceX Rocket to Build ‘Military Starships’

It is reported, that the Pentagon is exploring the option to deploy Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets to send military supplies into orbit to deploy “rapid response” force to foil a Benghazi-style attack.

Earlier, the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) had announced that it was looking to use space technology to quickly move “critical logistic supplies” during “time-sensitive missions or to delivery humanitarian assistance.”

Stephen R. Lyons, commander of U.S. Army Command (USTRANSCOM), said it would be “equivalent of a C-17 payload anywhere on the globe in less than an hour.”

The Pentagon also hinted at transporting quick-response force personnel during space flights. The report said Pentagon may consider using SpaceX rockets to deploy “rapid response” force to foil a Benghazi-style attack.

The U.S. Army Command (USTRANSCOM) had said it had teamed with SpaceX to allow the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to take advantage of industry innovation, since most technological innovation occurs outside the U.S. Government.

According to the U.S. Army Command (USTRANSCOM) Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), it is investigating “the technical feasibility of using SpaceX’s Starship Launch System in the next five years to support the DOD’s global logistics transportation.”
