Freeland and Yellen Meet to Discuss Inflation

According to report on June 20th, Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who is visiting Toronto for the first time in her tenure on the same day, and the two sides will discuss the Russian-Ukrainian war and jointly respond to the resulting hike of food and fuel prices.

Freeland said during her visit, Yellen will emphasize the strong economic ties between the U.S. and Canada and the shared priorities for ensuring global stability and prosperity, including cooperation to strengthen supply chains and reduce inflation. Therefore, it is necessary to increase fossil fuel production in the short term to reduce the high cost of natural gas and crude oil, meanwhile she reiterated the importance of adopting clean energy technologies.

During the meeting, the two sides will also discuss new measures to sanction the Putin regime by increasing economic pressure on Russia to end its war of aggression against Ukraine.
