The U.S. Department of State supports Philippines’ operations in the South China Sea

According to a Reuters report on June 17, the U.S. State Department said on Friday that the United States supports the Philippines’ call for the CCP to “stop provocative behavior in the South China Sea and respect international law.”

Last week, the Philippines filed a new diplomatic protest against CCP’s maritime activities within Manila’s 200-miles exclusive economic zone.

The Philippines accuses the CCP of “illegal fishing”. CCP’s coast guard ships tracked Filipino ships in the midst of their resupply missions, this is in addition to more than 300 complaints filed against the CCP’s activities in the South China Sea.

The U.S. Department of State said the U.S. shares the Philippines’ concerns over the CCP’s actions.

“These actions are part of a broader trend of PRC provocations against South China Sea claimants and other states lawfully operating in the region.” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
