A Livestream Interruption of a Top Influencer in Communist China Triggers Heated Discussion

Li Jiaqi, one of the top e-commerce influencers in China, was cut off by the Chinese Communist Party when his co-workers and he showed a tank-shaped cake in his live broadcast on June 3rd. His action has got on the CCP’s nerves as it always trying to suppress the truth of its Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4th, 1989.

Right after he showed the “tank cake” in front of his camera, his live broadcast was cut off. Posts and comments linking Li Jiaqi’s Livestream cut-off incident to the tank-shaped cake began to surge on Weibo, a Chinese platform similar to Twitter, which sparked discussion of the Tiananmen massacre among more than 60 million of Li Jiaqi’s fans, mostly the millennials.

In China, the millennials were raised and indoctrinated by having the Tiananmen massacre tragedy wiped out from all media sources that they could use. Some netizens pointed out that the CCP’s action of blocking Li Jiaqi has attracted even more attention and interest in learning about the Tiananmen Square massacre among people.
