Ukraine removes friendship sculpture as first step in removing Russian culture

On May 14, the city of Kiev, Kiev, Ukraine, said that the city’s law agency agreed to remove the bronze sculpture as well as more than 40 monuments and commemorative landmarks that symbolized Ukraine’s friendly “people’s friendship” with Russia , reported on May 15 by the National Business Daily.

Klitschko also said that the removal of Russian-related designations and renaming of municipal facilities, such as city streets, should not be rushed and that the government will decide on the final names of facilities based on the recommendations of experts from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and other historical and academic institutions.

This is the first step towards the de-Russification of Ukraine, the de-socialisation of red communism, and the formal beginning of its cultural and geopolitical proximity to Europe, which is bound to become part of the European Union.
