G7 To Phase Out Russian Petroleum Dependency With Escalating Sanctions

Kyiv, Ukraine, May 8th– G7 leaders held a video conference with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, especially on energy dependency.

The G7 leaders issued a joint statement promising to gradually eliminate dependence on Russian energy. G7 also planned to phase out or ban the import of Russian crude petroleum. Steps will be taken to ensure a stable and sustainable global energy supply, also maintaining affordable energy prices for global consumers.

In addition, the U.S. announced sanctions on three Russian television media. Accounting or consulting services for Russians are no longer permitted in the US. Further visa sanctions on Russian and Belarusian officials will be implemented.
