UK Foreign Secretary Says NATO Needs to Deal with Global Threats

In the evening of April 27th, UK Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, said that NATO’s attitude towards the Russian Ukrainian war has shown that its respect for security and sovereignty is far greater than its pursuit of short-term economic interests.

Truss also said in her speech, NATO should not only choose “between Euro-Atlantic security and Indo-Pacific security” and become “a global NATO.” She also said “I mean that NATO must have a global outlook, ready to tackle global threats.” NATO needs “to pre-empt threats in the Indo-Pacific, working with allies like Japan and Australia to ensure that the Pacific is protected.” Truss stressed that NATO needs “to ensure that democracies like Taiwan are able to defend themselves.”

In the end, Truss believes that the rise of the Communist China is not inevitable. If the Chinese Communist Party Continuously (CCP) does not abide by the international rules, it will lose its existing international status.
