U.S. P-8A Poseidon Flew Over Taiwan Strait to Counter CCP Military Plane Harassment

On Tuesday and Thursday this week, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continued to dispatch more than 20 warplanes to harass Taiwan. On Friday June 24th, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that the U.S. flew a Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane over the Taiwan Strait on Friday to demonstrate its “Commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command wrote in the statement: “The United States will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows, including within the Taiwan Strait”.

The statement added: “By operating within the Taiwan Strait in accordance with international law, the United States upholds the navigational rights and freedoms of all nations.”

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense told the Central News Agency on Friday evening local time that the national defense force can fully grasp the activities of foreign aircrafts and warships around the Taiwan Strait through joint intelligence surveillance and has countermeasures in place.
