Philippines Terminated Talk with CCP on Joint Oil Exploration in South China Sea

Foreign chief of Philippines Locsin said that the termination of the negotiation between Manila and Beijing on Joint Oil Exploration in South China Sea was proposed by the Philippine side. In his speech at the Department of Foreign Affairs, he said that Beijing and Manila had negotiated for three years, and both sides tired their best to advance the agenda within the scope permitted by the constitution. However, they found that if continued to move forward, there will be the risk of a “constitutional crisis”. Locsin pointed out that this is the reason why the Philippines suddenly proposed to stop, stressing that during the three-year negotiation period, the Philippines has never given up its sovereignty.

Locsin later said that the negotiations with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on oil and natural gas had been completely terminated on the instructions of President Rodrigo Duterte, adding that “nothing is pending, everything is over.” He also said that the responsibility to protect Philippine sovereignty will fall on the shoulders of the new administration.
