Blinken will Attend the Global Food Crisis Conference in Berlin

On Monday, a German Government spokesman said Germany would host a meeting titled “Unite for Global Food Security” to discuss the looming food shortages. The shortage is being caused by the Ukrainian war. U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is scheduled to attend the meeting.

The German spokesman said the Group of Seven is particularly committed to finding common answers to the looming global food crisis triggered by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Twitter, the purpose of the meeting is to “stabilize the global food supply.”

As fears of famine in vulnerable regions rise, Western countries have demanded that Moscow stop blocking Ukraine’s Black Sea ports to allow large grain reserves to be shipped to world markets.

Moscow denies responsibility for the food crisis and blames Western sanctions for disrupting food supplies; increasing grain prices and exacerbating fears of famine in vulnerable areas.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to attend the meeting via video link.
