Zelensky Thanked the European Commission for its Support

Ukrainian President Zelensky said in a statement on June 18 that he thanked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for the support for Ukraine’s election to the European Union’s candidature on Friday, and looks forward to a dialogue with the Presidents of the European Commission and Council of the European Union at the end of this month.

The European Commission issued a meeting statement on Friday recommending that the European Commission and Council grant Ukraine candidacy for EU membership. Ursula von der Leyen made it clear that Ukraine should be encouraged to continue implementing reform measures.

Andriy Borisovich Yermak, who is the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that the next step will be to implement legislation on the selection process for judges of Constitutional Court of Ukraine and initiate integrity checks on candidates for the High Judicial Council as well as candidates for the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine selection work, thereby strengthening the fight against high-level corruption.

The European Commission and Council will make a decision on June 23-24 on granting Ukraine candidacy for EU membership.
