French President Macron’s Bloc Loses Parliamentary Majority

French President Emmanuel Macron’s party La République En Marche (LREM) lost its parliamentary majority after major seats gained by a newly formed left-wing alliance and the far-right. Provisional results showed that Macron’s Ensemble (ENS) alliance won 245 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly, not exceeding the absolute majority required seats.

In contrast, defeated by Macron in French presidential campaign early this year, far-right Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (NR) party saw its biggest parliamentary success in decades, which secured 89 seats, 10 times more seats from outgoing parliament.

Newly formed leftist New Ecologic and Social People’s Union (NUPES) coalition secured 131 seats, becoming the main opposition force. Marcon’s Macron’s Ensemble (ENS) alliance was widely criticized on rising high inflation and other issues. After losing control of National Assembly, the ear of Macron is approaching to its last chapter.
