Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi Says Japan Will Deter the CCP and Other Countries From Ignoring the Rules

On June 11, a Tokio News Agency correspondent from Singapore reported that Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi spoke at the Asian Security Conference held in Singapore on June 11. Nobuo Kishi positioned nuclear powers Russia, Communist China, and North Korea as entities that ignored the rules and called on countries to be confident that Japan’s significant strengthening of its defense capabilities would crush their motivation to ignore the rules.

Mr. Kishi noted that Russia is increasing its military activities around Japan. He said that, based on the experience of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, international solidarity would dampen Russian aggression’s momentum and might deter possible acts of aggression in other regions.

Nobuo Kishi said joint military activities between Communist China and Russia were becoming a growing concern for many countries. Against the CCP, he said that Japan must be on guard and that there were attempts to strengthen the Communist Chinese military without transparency and without renouncing the use of force against Taiwan.

On North Korea’s missile development, he denounced that the country is “repeatedly firing missiles with an unprecedented high frequency. Given this situation, Nobuo Kishi explained that to push Japan further to strengthen the pace towards a peaceful nation, Japan would revise its strategic documents, secure the necessary defense budget, and fundamentally improve its defense capabilities.
