Amazon Plans to Shut Down Communist China Kindle Store

On June 2nd, Amazon decided to shut down its Kindle e-book store in Communist China. Amazon will discontinue the Kindle e-book store in Communist China on June 30th, 2023, and will refund any Kindle devices purchased after January of this year, according to an email statement from an Amazon spokesperson.
Amazon’s main competitors are Alibaba and Jingdong. In 2019, Amazon e-commerce withdrew from Communist China. Sources pointed out that the main reason for the withdrawal of the Kindle e-book business is the excessive regulatory pressure from the CCP authorities.
Under the reign of the CCP, works of authorship, including electronic publications, will be subject to censorship and content restrictions by the Communist China authorities. It is no coincidence that recently Yahoo, Microsoft, and other U.S. Internet companies have also announced that they will scale back their business in Communist China in the future, citing the CCP’s regulatory environment. Analysts say that this round of divestment signals a further decoupling of western “big tech” companies from Communist China.
