Some Ukrainian Soldiers Evacuated From Mariupol Steel Plant

According to VOA news on May 16, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar released a statement, saying that more than 260 Ukrainian soldiers had been evacuated from the Azovstal plant steel plant in Mariupol; 53 seriously injured fighters of which were sent to a hospital in Novoazovsk, east of Mariupol, while another 211 soldiers were properly placed in the town of Olenivka.
Maliar mentioned that the Ukrainian government is currently taking efforts to rescue the remaining soldiers inside the plant. She also expressed appreciation to the Mariupol defenders for the critical rescue time they had bought for the government. In this regard, the General Staff of Ukraine also admitted that the Ukrainian troops defending the city of Mariupol have already fulfilled all their tasks.
Right now, their main goal is to ensure the survival of all their fighters. In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pointed out during his nightly video address to the nation that the government’s rescue operation was still ongoing and Ukraine needed its heroes alive.
