Florida Designates Nov. 7th as an Annual Communism Victims Day

On May 9th, Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis signed a new bill which designates Nov. 7th as an annual Communism Victims Day.

The new law, which went into effect immediately, requires the State Board to adopt the new standards by April 2023. The bill describes the day as being geared toward honoring the 100 million people who have fallen victim to communist regimes across the world. Public schools in Florida will make sure students would learn about the truth of communism by adding a curriculum about the various communist regimes throughout history and their leaders to high school U.S. government courses. At least 45 minutes of required Victims of Communism Day instructions will be added during the 2023-2024 school year.

The governor said younger generation didn’t really know that much about the communism political ideology and he wanted the students to understand the evil of communism, the dictator’s oppression of people and the suffering of hundreds of thousands of victims under the weight of this discredited ideology. Communism and totalitarianism had tremendous conflict with freedom and democracy, the founding principles of the U.S.. Understanding the value of freedom and the perils of communism plays a critical role in making sure the beacon of freedom still stands.
