Intensive Visits To Ukraine By Political Leaders Worldwide

According to Associated Press on May 8th, the U.S. first lady Jill Biden made an unannounced visit to western Ukraine and held a Mother’s Day meeting with the Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska to show the U.S. support for the embattled nation.

During the meeting, Jill said President Joe Biden had intended to observe the situation in Ukraine firsthand when he visited Poland in March but had to put it aside due to security reasons. To this end, Jill’s visit helped President Biden fulfil his wish and demonstrated to the Ukrainian people that this war had to stop, and the people of the United States stood with the people of Ukraine.

On the same day, the president of the Bundestag (German parliament) Bärbel Bas met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv to discuss the arms supply and Ukraine’s bid for the EU membership. According to Reuters’ reports, both sides agreed that peace must not be unilaterally dictated by Russia but brokered through a fair peace agreement. In addition, Bas promised that Bundestag would speed up all necessary procedures regarding Ukraine’s EU membership. In the meanwhile, she assured Zelenskyy of Germany’s solidarity with Ukraine and ongoing support in their fight for survival.

On the same evening, Zelenskyy attended a virtual meeting of G7 leaders. In the meeting, G7 leaders reiterated their full solidarity and support for Ukraine’s courageous defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and its striving for a peaceful, prosperous, free, and democratic future within its internationally recognized borders.
