U.S. Takes a Different Approach to Continue Its Assistance to Ukraine

On Apr 28th, the U.S. President Biden asked Congress to develop more legal instruments to seize Russian oligarchs’ assets and approve an additional $33 billion in aid for Ukraine.

In addition, Congress has overwhelmingly voted to pass the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022. This act is similar to the World-War-II-era U.S. weapons financing program, in which the U.S. can streamline the procedures of military assistance and allow Ukraine to repay debts at some later date with no congressional intervention. This will facilitate the U.S. export of military equipment to Ukraine.

Biden said at the White House on Thursday that the cost of this fight was not cheap, but caving to aggression was going to be more costly. He believed the U.S. needed this bill to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
