Senior U.S. Officials Will Pay a Visit to the Solomon Island

According to the White House Daily Briefing on Apr 18th, the U.S. National Security Council Indo-Pacific Coordinator Kurt Campbell and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink would lead a delegation of U.S. government officials to three Pacific Island nations: Fiji, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
The delegation, composed of representatives from the National Security Council, the Department of State, the Department of Defense and the U.S. Agency for International Development, would seek to further deepen America’s enduring ties with the region and to advance a free, open and resilient Indo-Pacific.
In the three Pacific Island nations, the delegation would meet with local senior government officials as well as representatives of the Pacific Islands Forum to discuss issues of importance to the Pacific as a whole. Some analysis and remarks of the media pointed out the top priority on the U.S. officials’ trip to the region was to strive to revoke the draft security framework agreement between CCP and the Solomon Islands signed in late March, pursuant to which CCP could deploy military force on the Solomon Islands, thereby gaining a strategic advantage.
