According to relevant media reports on May 16th, the World Health Organization (WHO) received a proposal by 13 member states for Taiwan to join an upcoming assembly as an observer.
According to the source, Taiwan attended the World Health Assembly as an observer for eight consecutive years from 2009 to 2016. But due to the CCP’s extreme suppression, Taiwan has been unable to continue to participate since 2017.
It is worth noting that international support for Taiwan has gradually increased recently. On the 13th of this month, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill to assist Taiwan in obtaining observer status at the WHO. Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting expressed support for Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly and all other international organization meetings. The WHO is expected to decide on this proposal on May 23rd.
