The United Nations Office for Human Rights said in a statement on May 2 that the Russian-Ukrainian War has entered its 68th day. So far, the war has resulted in the deaths of 3,153 civilians, an increase of 254 over 29 April.
The statement mentioned that the actual death toll is expected to be higher than that, due to the difficulty in keeping abreast of the real situation from severely trapped areas, and most of the victims have been attacked by explosive weapons such as missiles. Nearly half of the deaths occurred in Donetsk and Luhansk in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, which are also the focal points of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said on Monday that so far, more than 5.5 million people have fled Ukraine, accounting for more than 10% of Ukraine’s pre-war population.
