U.S. Should Intervene in Taiwan’s Defense with Strategic Clarity”

It is reported on July 26th that Senator Roger Wicker of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, while participating in the “Ketagalan Forum-2022 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue” , said that in order to protect the ally Taiwan from the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) ‘s military force, the U.S. must have “strategic clarity” and make it clear that if the CCP invades Taiwan, the U.S. will intervene to defend Taiwan. The United States should adopt a policy of “peacemaking through strength,” which means pursuing the largest possible increase in defense preparedness.
Wicker said, the United States needs to expand its naval fleet to surpass CCP’s growing naval deployments in the Pacific. And Taiwan needs sufficient missiles, satellites, and cyber capabilities to be able to exercise asymmetric warfare. The United States must significantly increase the budget of the Pacific Deterrence Initiative.
The two Japanese lawmakers at the meeting expressed their continued commitment in promoting Taiwan-friendly affairs, including enhancing Taiwan’s security and defense, strengthening the legalization of Taiwan-Japan relations, and supporting Taiwan’s participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership(CPTPP). The Taiwanese legislators stressed that the CCP would take advantage of Taiwan’s open society to infiltrate political parties and incite public sentiment. It will also use Taiwan’s dependence on Communist China’s economy and trade to influence and attack the Taiwan government. Therefore, legislation must be passed to block the CCP’s infiltration power.
