Major Internet Blackout in Canada

A massive outage from Rogers Communications disrupted service across the entire country of Canada starting approximately 4 o’clock, early hour of July 8th.

The outage has crippled networks, affecting phones, and internet. All retail and commercial operations are halted due to debit machines faulting and unable to process payments. 911 Emergency calls service are out of service with many other internet related equipment being offline as well.

From this point, the internet service provider has yet to state the reason for the blackout and no information of when services will be restored.

An updated statement at 11:30 AM confirmed that service was still down. The company said, “We are currently experiencing an outage across our wireline and wireless networks and our technical teams are working hard to restore services as quickly as possible,“ and saying they “sincerely apologize to our customers.”

“We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share, including when we expect service to be back up.”

Questions remain how a country-wide service can be entirely shutdown simultaneously from a single source, rather than isolated sections or areas. The answer will be revealed eventually and hopefully will shed light to a vital service to the public.
