89% of Ukrainian Citizens Oppose Ceding Territory to Russia

According to Korean media on June 30th, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on June 29th that WSJ and NORC, a Ukrainian public opinion research company, conducted research on 1,005 Ukrainian adults from June 9th. A five-day telephone interview survey shows that 89 percent of respondents opposed the idea of ceding territory to Russia and ending the war. That is, the territory occupied by Russia after its offensive on February 24 this year cannot be ceded for truce.

Eighty-one percent opposed the proposal to cede the southern Crimean Peninsula and the eastern Donbass regions that Russia had actually occupied before the offensive on the condition of a truce. In this survey, 66% of the respondents expected that the Ukrainian army would defeat the Russian army and restore the borders at the time before the invasion, while only 10% believed that the possibility was very small.

In particular, 53% of respondents predict that Ukrainian troops will also expel Russian troops in the Crimean Peninsula and Donbas region and fully restore their territory. According to the survey, Ukrainians also have high trust in President Bolodimir Zelensky. Seventy-eight percent of respondents said they supported President Zelensky’s response to the Russian invasion, while only 7 percent said it was weak.
