German Union President Urges Volkswagen to Pay Attention to CCP’s Genocide in Xinjiang

On June 17, the chairman of German Metal Workers Union urged Volkswagen to reconsider its factory in western Communist China, as western countries have confirmed genocide crimes committed by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Xinjiang.

Volkswagen is a German company that relies heavily on the Chinese market and manufacturing base, since it was confirmed that the CCP committed genocide in Xinjiang, Volkswagen has become the focus and core of criticism. Volkswagen entered Chinese market with Communist Chinese Government’s incentive policies, and the Communist China accounts for 40% of Volkswagen’s total sales. In the first five months of 2022, Volkswagen’s global sales fell 26%, and sales in Communist China fell 29%.

Earlier this month, German Government denied Volkswagen’s application to renew its investment insurance for its operations in Communist China, citing its genocidal crimes against Xinjiang. A Volkswagen Spokesman stated that all Volkswagen’s global operations are strongly opposed to forced labor.

Earlier this month, German Government accused the CCP of genocide in Xinjiang, and thus denied Volkswagen’s application to renew investment insurance for its business in Communist China. A Volkswagen spokesperson stated in an email that Volkswagen’s global operations will firmly oppose forced labor. The Volkswagen CEO had also been criticized for not taking CCP’s genocide crimes in Xinjiang seriously.
