EU-CCP Trade And Economic Relations Are Increasingly Chilly

According to a media report on April 28th, since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) has not only failed to condemn the war crime committed by Moscow but has also shown strong support for Russia’s invasion due to Xi Jinping’s close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This move was considered by the EU an existential threat to European security. For this reason, Europe’s bilateral relationship centered on economics with the CCP has gradually soured .

The report mentioned that the recent abstention of the CCP in a UN vote to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the subsequent blaming of the US for the conflict by its foreign ministry spokesman, its continuous cover-up of the pandemic and its repeated refusal to cooperate with international investigations into the origins of the virus since its outbreak, as well as the sale of defective medical and health supplies to Europe. – The series of actions is threatening the security of the EU and undermining European rules and order.

According to the sources, the EU and the CCP did not reach any consensus at the recent summit, and the CCP continued to use economic coercion against some European countries. The EU has realized the necessity to reduce its dependence on the CCP. On the other hand, there existed a completely different ideological competition between Europe and the CCP, namely the conflicts between democracy and dictatorship. Under such circumstances, trade and economic exchange between the two sides will eventually come to an end.
