The United States assigns official staff to investigate the China Eastern Airlines crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on the 21st that it had appointed a senior aviation safety investigator as the authorized representative of the United States to investigate the crash of China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737.

Representatives from Boeing (BA.N), CFM, a joint venture of General Electric and Safran (SAF.PA) that produced the engines, and the Federal Aviation Administration will serve as technical advisers, the NTSB added.

According to an international agreement, since the aircraft is made in the United States, the United States has the right to send representatives to participate in the crash investigation. It is not clear whether or when the NTSB will go to the crash site in China. The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to the request for comment. Boeing CEO Calhoun told employees today that Boeing has provided full support to technical experts investigating the China Eastern Airlines 737-800 crash.
